Summary of Himegami no Miko (1.3-1.5)

Their first date schedule was like this: a tragedy drama in the movie theater about forbidden love; enjoying sweets in the lounge; overviewing the city scene at night on a Ferris wheel. Although they were first time experiences for Chikane, she did not feel any fun in these things-in fact she was bored to the core, thinking these things were no different than her daily training of facing a wall, biting sands or standing on a cliff. On the way back, she couldn't help asking the giggling Himeko what was so fun about it.

With an incredible look, Himeko answered that she had always wanted to try those things. On the island there were no places to do those things, not to say since she had the birth seal, she could not play with other kids at all. She has dreamed of a common life that she could not have had. Chikane was a little disappointed in her answer; she had sensed something mysterious, soft and powerful in Himeko and thus accepted her suggestion. However, this naive-sounding idea was quickly making her losing her interest. She also thought "Chikane chan" by which Himeko calls her sounded too close. Plainly told that Chikane didn't enjoy the date for even a bit, Himeko looked sad and apologized for not able to prepare it better.

Tired of playing this game with Himeko, Chikane thought of ending it right then by going to a shaded place. However, at that moment, Himeko rounded her armed to Chikane's and dragged her into a gaming center for a picture at the Print Seal Club. In the crowded box, Himeko flushed and told Chikane that her heart was beating fast. Trying to end this ASAP, Chikane picked a rose background and just as the camera flashed, Himeko hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. Utterly confused, Chikane asked why, while Himeko gave an excuse of this being a common thing between her classmates, and apologized to Chikane to make her feel uncomfortable. Somehow, a seed of a certain something was planted since that moment; Chikane went back, stick that photo to her bed and stared at it until she fell asleep.

The following dates had about the same content as the first one. Himeko was still bad at planning and clumsy at times, adding too much sugar in home made sandwiches and red tea. Trying to comfort Himeko, Chikane suggested that she would make it next time. As their sweet dates continued, the certain something in Chikane's heart swelled, when they ran in the raining days in the same coat, when they sang duets in Karaoke, when they went shopping with arms locked...... This certain something brought both happiness and a dull pain. An explosion in the movie brought Chikane back into the reality, when Himeko, deeply moved by the plot, sought Chikane's fingers quietly.

After the movie, they were enjoying the afternoon tea time in an open cafe. Chikane was gently watching Himeko, still all excited about the movie. In the sunset, Himeko's hair shined beautifully. Initially annoyed by her Bisque Doll appearance, clumsy actions, but now Chikane found all these so adorable, that she wanted to protect her. All so incredible. "So I thought they are just like us, attracted to each other regardless of the cruel fate." Commented Himeko. All of a sudden feeling a heartache, Chikane lowered her head and asked Himeko, why did she pick her to be "the most important person".

Himeko explained. She didn't want to get anyone else involved, knowing that it would all end when she'd be 16. But sometimes she thought, maybe she could ask the other Mikamiko, who was aware of the situation already. She prayed every night in bed, that she would trade the future of Hinomiya family, honor of Mikamiko, and even her life for this single wish. Then, God answered her wish and presented Chikane to her, with beauty beyond her wildest imaginations, perfect proportions, shiny hair, full bust, white and soft skin, and ..."very, very gentle". Surprised at this impression, Chikane asked, "Is it because I saved you?" That was all cool and chivalrous, like a knight and she loved it, but the real reason was "Because Chikane chan granted my selfish wish. Chikane chan is the nicest person in this world, nicer than my dad, mom or God himself." Himeko smiled.
